Who takes this test?
While all students take the MAP tests in elementary and middle school, by high school, the MAP tests are only taken by students who are taking remedial special education classes in reading or math.
How is this test administered?
The Reading and Math MAP tests are offered in the fall, winter and spring in the Essential English and Essential Math classes. The tests are computerized, and students can take as much time as they need.
What does the score mean?
The MAP test scores provide special education teachers with specific information about student progress and allow us to more accurately place students in the appropriate classes to meet their academic needs. By high school, a student's reading and math scores on the MAP test should be 221 or higher. Students whose scores fall below those levels may receive specialized instruction in those areas to improve their skills.
