• Functional Classes

     Functional classes are for students with the most severe cognitive deficits. Students taking functional courses will likely live and work in a supported environment.

    Functional Reading
    Prerequisite/Selection Process: IEP team recommendation
    Intended Audience: Students with IEP in grades 9-12
    Credit: Up to three trimesters = .5 credit per trimester
    Major Outcomes:
    • Development of functional reading skills
    Instructional Focus: Taught by SPED teacher with individualized instruction
     
    Functional Math
    Prerequisite/Selection Process: IEP team recommendation
    Intended Audience: Students with IEP in grades 9-12
    Credit: Up to three trimesters = .5 credit per trimester
    Major Outcomes:
    • Development of functional math skills
    Instructional Focus: Taught by SPED teacher with individualized instruction

    Functional Community Experience
    Prerequisite/Selection Process: IEP team recommendation
    Intended Audience: Students with IEP in grades 9-12
    Credit: Up to three trimesters = .5 credit per trimester
    Major Outcomes:
    • Development of skills needed in community settings
    Instructional Focus: Taught by a SPED teacher with individualized instruction

    Functional Vocational
    Prerequisite/Selection Process: IEP team recommendation
    Intended Audience: Students with IEP in grades 9-12
    Credit: Up to three trimesters = .5 credit per trimester
    Major Outcomes:
    • Awareness of duties in vocational settings
    • Development of work-related skills
    • Functional work skills
    Instructional Focus: Perform jobs within the school and/or district
     
    Functional Domestic
    Prerequisite/Selection Process: IEP team recommendation
    Intended Audience: Students with IEP in grades 9-12
    Credit: Up to three trimesters = .5 credit per trimester
    Major Outcomes:
    • Development of skills needed for home living
    Instructional Focus: Taught by a SPED teacher with individualized instruction and hands-on activities
