• 2024 Final Robotics Blog: "If I Was The Robotics Teacher..."

Posted by Mr Keeney on 5/26/2024

this assignment is due by midnight on Sunday June 2nd. (students will be handing in their school ChromeBooks on Monday June 3rd)

Your final robotics blog assignment is to write a very detailed paragraph (5 to 10 sentences) to completely and thoroughly answer all 3 of the following questions. Make sure you use complete sentences and organize your thoughts into a quality set of responses to all three of these prompts (grammar DOES count):

    • Describe at least one new skill/concept you learned during the robotics unit (be specific about what you learned and why you think that was important to you to learn).
    • Did you have any times when you felt like you “failed” during the robotics activities? (describe how you took a negative result or bad feeling and learned something important from that experience)
    • If you could make any changes with the robotics projects & activities, what would you do differently? If you liked the robotics activities the way they were done in your class, describe why you think other schools should do this same set of projects at their school.

You must reply to this Blog between today and Sunday June 2nd at midnight

REMEMBER TO USE YOUR USERNAME & CLASS PERIOD NUMBERS INSTEAD OF YOUR REAL NAME! Do not post your email address.

I will not regrade any previous 3rd trimester work for any blog assignments that are posted after 3:05pm on Friday May 31st, because I need time to read and re-grade any late blogs for your 3rd trimester report card deadline. All of the blog assignments will be counted as part of your 3rd trimester work for my class.

    8th Grade Blog #4    (due By Sunday May 26th, 2024 @ midnight)

You and your partners have been working with the LEGO SPIKE Prime robotics hardware & SPIKE Web App programming software for about 5 weeks so far. You have used some of the activities within the LEGO SPIKE Prime "Invention Squad" & "Competition Ready" unit plans to learn about the programming. You and your partners have also done a few different Robotics Challenge activities to demonstrate what you have learned about programming and testing your robot.  I want to get feedback from you on how it is going so far…

Write a detailed paragraph (4 - 9 sentences) to explain your answers to all three of the prompts listed below.

Remember to be specific and include details for all 3 questions!

    1) How do you think the process of building your robot & sensors went so far?  Were there problems building things or did everything go easy for you & your partner(s)? (be specific)

    2) How are you doing at using the SPIKE Web App software and following the daily activities in the specific unit plans we have done to attempt the activities with your robot? Which items have been easy to do and what problems have you needed to overcome (individually and/or as a team)? (be specific)

    3) Is your daily journaling helping you keep track of your progress? Tell me about how you think you and your partner(s) could improve the process for the next few weeks so it is more beneficial for everyone in your group to keep track of your daily progress in class. (be specific)

Posted by Mr. Keeney on 4/30/2024

(blog #3 due by Sunday May 12th)

View this brief online presentation about 21st Century Skills:

    www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXT2STtm_54

Information received from employers who are planning on hiring students after high school shows that 70% of the students are lacking some very important applied skills that are essential for success in the real world. The website attached to this assignment describes more about these life-long skills. They are called “21st Century Skills” and they include:

    ** Critical Thinking/Problem-Solving **

    ** Communication/Networking **

    ** Collaboration/Teamwork **

    ** Creativity/Imagination **

    1. For this week’s blog entry, you must write your own personal definition of one of these six 21st Century Skills listed above & explain what that word means to you/how it affects your life as a middle school student.
    2. You must also include a detailed example of what you are doing (or not doing) within your robotics activities to demonstrate that word at school.
    3. Finally, you must write a goal for yourself to improve one of the 21st Century Skills and how you plan to measure your progress towards that goal this trimester.

Your blog should contain a properly written paragraph including 4 to 8 sentences to explain all three parts of this week’s blog assignment (correct grammar & punctuation does count).

You must reply to this blog between today and Sunday May 12th at midnight. If you have not turned in your Blog Username yet, go back to that assignment posted in Google Classroom at the start of the Robotics unit and re-read those instructions so that you can get that work completed & submitted.

The robot units and challenge activities we have done so far include:  “Getting Started: Moving Base”, “Moving Straight” using rotation sensor & “Dicey Situation Challenge”, “Moves & Turns” & “Labyrinth Challenge”, “Angles & Patterns” using gyro sensor” & “Gyro Labyrinth Challenge”, “Grab & Release” using Motorized Arm & “Cubiod Shuffle Challenge”, “Objects & Obstacles using Ultrasonic Sensor & “Ultra Labyrinth Challenge”. In the next 1 1/2 weeks, you will also do the  “Colors and Lines” using Color/Light Sensor & “Drive Around The Block Challenge” & “RoboSlalom Challenge”. We will also learn about sounds & brick displays to create your own “Sound & Light Challenge” and then write detailed Pseudocode commands to create your own “Pseudocode Challenge” before we start the “The Grand Challenge” final test.

Write a very detailed paragraph using correct grammar & punctuation

(at least 5-9 sentences) to explain your answers to all 3 of these prompts:
