Mr Keeney offers several opportunities outside of the school day for students who are interested in various forms of Technology and Engineering. Here is the list of current activities that run through the Oak View Community Education program:Open Lab (for currently enrolled Tech-Ed/PLTW students)
- Students who are currently enrolled in Mr Keeney's Tech-Ed and/or PLTW classes can come in before school or stay after school each week to do make-up work, get additional assistance on their activities, or do additional work that the student cannot complete during normal class time.
- Open Lab days vary week to week, but typically there is one morning session & one after-school session:
- 7:35-8:15 morning Open Lab time (days vary every week)
- 3:10-4:00 after-school Open Lab time (days vary every week)
- Check-In at the main office if you are coming before school for Open Lab.
- Activity Bus passes are available if you stay for the after-school Open Lab.
FIRST LEGO League (FLL)- Season runs from September through December (1 day per week after school from 3:10-5:10)
- Students work as a team (limited to 8-10 students per team) to design, program and operate a LEGO EV3 robot to navigate through a 4' x 8' obstacle course to score points for successful missions.
- The students must also describe how they engineered their robot and why it is made the way they created it as part of the tournament day. They also show off their programming skills by showing their robotics programs to a judge and explaining how they tried making their robot do the tasks that they wrote their programs to accomplish.
- Each team also researches a real-life challenge that they want to try to solve and then presents their findings & proposed solution to a set of judges during the tournament day (theme varies every year).
- Students are also judged on a secret "FLL Values" challenge (teamwork/problem-solving/cooperation)
- Oak View teams will compete against the other Minnesota FLL teams at one of the HighTechKids qualifier competitions during an all-day Saturday or Sunday tournament in December.
Anoka-Hennepin Robotics Challenge- Season runs from January through April (1 day per week after school 3:10-5:10)

- Oak View teams will compete against the other Anoka-Hennepin middle school teams at the district-wide competition during an all-day Saturday tournament in April - hosted at Oak View.
Oak View video announcement crew- Students who are interested in developing informational stories, editing & producing video segments, and/or performing weekly video announcements for Oak View are encouraged to become part of the team of students who work together to create a pre-recorded set of video segments to share information with other students for the weekly Friday morning show.
- Students on the video announcement crew will work on the weekly tasks in Mr Keeney's PRIDE advisory, as well as stay afterschool every Thursday throughout the school year to create the fun and informational new segments.
