This is it, Seniors! This site will help you navigate your plans for after graduation, whether that be college, the military, apprenticeship or entering the workforce.
Where are you on the journey of planning your life after high school? No matter where you are or how you might feel about your progress, it's okay! Everyone has to start somewhere. This resource can help. All you need to do is keep moving forward!
Senior Timeline
- First Trimester
- Visit and apply to colleges - ideally by November 1st
- Complete the FAFSA
- Talk with military recruiters if that is of interest. Take the ASVAB if you plan to join the military.
- Explore workforce options
- Set up a meeting with Ms. Upton
- Second Trimester
- Search and apply for scholarships
- Visit colleges/career areas to help make a final decision
- Third Trimester
- Compare your options and the financial implications and make your final decision by May 1st.

- An apprenticeship is a program that trains you to become skilled in one particular trade or profession, whether it be hairstyling, plumbing, electrical work, etc. It typically combines classroom learning with hands-on work.
Gap Year
Americorps - Spend a year in service to others. AmeriCorps volunteers strive to improve lives, foster civic engagement, and strengthen communities across the country.
Verto Education - Spend a year traveling abroad at 1 or 2 Verto locations in Argentina, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, England, Italy or Spain. Experiential learning through cultural immersion aligns with the potential of earning college credit.

The Career and College Specialists have hosted several workshops to provide information to students and families about various career and college readiness topics. Click on the links below to learn more.
College Transfer 101 - The target audience for this discussion are students that are currently taking or considering taking college-level classes with the goal of earning a bachelor’s or 4-year degree and their parents/guardians. The purpose of this conversation is to inform students and families about the many nuances of transferring college credit so they can make the best decisions.
HBCU Panel - The Anoka-Hennepin Career and College Specialists recently facilitated a panel discussion about the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) experience. This conversation featured alumni and current students from Clark Atlanta University, Howard University, Tuskegee University, and Xavier University.Native American Panel - The Anoka-Hennepin Career and College Specialists recently facilitated two panel discussions featuring Native American voices and college opportunities. These conversations include college representatives and current students from Augsburg University, Bemidji State University, Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College, University of Minnesota Morris, and University of Minnesota Twin Cities.
