Advanced Elective Class Pass Fail Grading Option
-
Students who are taking advanced level classes (Honors, AP, IB) that are electives--such as Honors Spanish III, Honors PreCalculus, IB Math Applications, etc--may choose to use a Pass/Fail grading option. The purpose of this option is to encourage students to take challenging coursework, even when the class is not required, but to not worry as much about their final grade. When filling out the Pass/Fail form, the student will have the option to receive a "P," rather than a grade of "D" and/or of "C." A grade of "P" does not impact GPA. The student must still pass the class to receive a "P" and credit.
Repeating Courses Information
-
There are two options for having grades changed/removed from student transcripts.
- If a student takes a required class and fails, they must retake the class for graduation purposes. The class may be retaken in their schedule or as a credit recovery class offered in night school or summer school. When the student successfully completes the required class and completes/turns in the Repeated Course/Failed Course form to their counselor, the original failed grade will be removed from the student's transcript.
- If a student makes a plan to retake a class that they passed in order to receive a better grade, the first course grade AND credit can be removed. When the student successfully completes the course retaken and completes/turns in the Repeated Course/Removing Lower Grade form (this form requires a parent signature), the lower grade AND credit will be removed from the student's transcript. With this option, students need to be aware of their total credits so they don't remove credit they will need to earn their diploma.
The forms are available from your house office or you can print them from this site (see forms below). If you have any questions, please contact your school counselor.
