Assistive Technology
Assistive Technology is any tool that you would use with a student to help them access typical classroom activities or curriculum. Many people know that high-tech devices such as Augmentative Communication devices or computers fall into the category of Assistive Technology. Low tech solutions can also fall into the category of Assistive Technology. This can include things as simple as a pencil grip, raised line paper, or modified eating utensils.This area is designed to give staff more information regarding Assistive Technology and how to consider, trial, acquire and use Assistive Technology tools.To start with, please use the following web page that outlines information about Assistive Technology in Anoka-Hennepin Public Schools:

Handheld device information (iPad, Android, etc.)
There has been a huge increase in people's interest in using various handheld devices with students with special needs. Currently, we consider handheld devices to include:- iPads
- iPod Touches
- Android Devices
- Smart Phones
Not all of these devices are things that our team can purchase or distribute. But, sometimes staff have a desire to utilize a device that is already owned by the student to meet their needs. We hope to share information regarding both devices that we can purchase, as well as devices that students or families may bring to school from home.

AT Request Forms
In an effort to best meet your needs, there are different request forms for you to choose from. Please read through all of the options and then select the form that best identifies your Assistive Technology request/need.
iPad/iPod Requests- Trial iPad or iPod Touch - For a special education teacher who would like to trial an iPod Touch or an iPad with one of your students for educational/therapy purposes.
- AAC iPad Trial - For SLPs to request a 6 week trial of an iPad with specific AAC software installed.
- App Request for Existing iPads - To request that an app or apps be deployed to an iPad you already have or multiple iPads.
- Request to Purchase an iOS App for a Student Owned Device - Special Education Case Managers ONLY: Use this form to request an app to be purchased for a student owned iOS device for access purposes only.
- iOS Apps Available - (UPDATED) Our Teaching and Learning Specialists created an App List of good apps to use. However, keeping up with apps is an overwhelming process, so this list may be outdated.
- Innovative Grant Proposal - To request a SET of devices (iPad, iPod, Chromebooks, etc.) to use with a group of students or staff.
Read & Write for Google Request
- Read & Write for Google Request - To request a Read & Write for Google account to use with the Read & Write for Google Chrome extension.
AAC Device Requests
- AAC Device Trial - For SLPs to request a 6 week trial of a specific AAC device that does not include iPads.
Laptops and Chromebooks- Laptop or Chromebook Request Form - To request a trial of an Mac Laptop, PC Laptop or Chromebook.
General Requests- SPED Library Request - if you know of a particular item that you need from the SPED library, e-mail Sara Johansen-Dexter at Sara.JohansenDexter@ahschools.us
- Learning Ally Request - To request student access to the Learning Ally app. You will be asked if the student will be using their own device, or if you need to have a district iPod Touch assigned to the student.
- Technical Assistance - To request technical help with Assistive Technology (e.g. installation of a program, broken equipment, training on a particular software)
