Teacher of Color Mentor Program
-
Join the next generation of Anoka-Hennepin educators of color
The Anoka-Hennepin Teacher of Color Mentorship Retention program was created to increase and retain teachers of color. A culturally responsive and effective induction process that includes orientation, building teacher support networks, providing seminars and workshops, and mentoring based upon standards of effective instruction is a means to retaining excellent and diverse educators.
Program details:
- Focuses on understanding identities and building upon new teachers' strengths, including cultural understanding, lived experiences, and high expectations.
- Promotes systems that support teachers to experience their profession in more culturally relevant ways.
- Centers on social-emotional support and teachers of color and American Indian teachers' sense of well-being.
- Encourages efforts to build informal mentoring networks.
The Teacher of Color Mentorship program is made available by a grant funded by the Minnesota Department of Education.
