• Reading Foundations 2:
    Qualifying students will be placed in a reading intervention course, in addition to their grade-level English course, based on state and district test scores as well as by teacher/counselor recommendation or parent request. For more information, please contact your guidance counselor or the Reading department leader at your child’s school.
     

    Intended Audience:   Grades 11 and 12


    Credit: Two - Three trimesters = 0.5 high school credit per trimester

     

    Prerequisite/Selection Process: 

    • Selection based on reading achievement scores, counselor/teacher referral and/or parent request.
    • Students may retake the course.
    • Students do not have to take Reading Foundations 1 in order to take Reading Foundations 2.


    Major Outcomes:

    • Accelerate reading achievement
    • Improve reading comprehension
    • Improve work attack skills
    • Improve reading fluency
    • Expand academic vocabulary
    • Improve test-taking skills


    Projects, activities, etc.:
    In-class nonfiction and independent reading, discussions, journals, and goal-setting.

     

    Instructional Focus:
    Teachers will model instructional strategies and students will participate in guided and independent practice in whole group, small group, and through independent activities.
