Academic Reading Prep IIQualifying students will be placed in a reading intervention course, in addition to their grade-level English course, based on state and district test scores as well as by teacher/counselor recommendation or parent request. For more information, please contact your guidance counselor or the Reading department leader at your child’s school.
Intended Audience: Grades 11 and 12
Credit: One Trimester = 0.5 high school creditsPrerequisite/Selection Process:
- Selection based on reading achievement scores and/or counselor/teacher referral.
- Students may also self-select the course as one of their electives.
- Students may retake the course.
- Students do not need to take Academic Reading Prep 1 in order to take Academic Reading Prep 2.
Major Outcomes:- Improve reading comprehension in nonfiction, textbook, and academic reading
- Expand academic vocabulary and study skills
- Improve test-taking skills
Projects, activities, etc.:
In-class nonfiction and independent reading, discussions, journals, and goal-setting.Instructional Focus:
Teachers will model instructional strategies and students will participate in guided and independent practice in whole group, small group, and through independent activities.
