    Team Rules & Expectations

     

     

    A.  Registration and Shoe Sales

     

     

                1.  Wednesday, Feb. 26th  from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the school cafeteria.                      Family members are welcomed to also purchase track & field shoes.

     

     

                2.  Registration fees are $280, individual max $650 and family max $850.

     

     

     

    B.  The following must be on file in the Athletic/Activities office                                       prior to any track and field participation:

     

     

                1.  A signed MSHSL eligibility form (only one needed for the 13/14 school year).

     

     

                2.  A physical exam not older than 3 years.

     

     

                3.  A health emergency form submitted to Coach.

     

     

                4.  A paid participation fee (can be refunded if athlete withdraws from a sport

     

     

                     within the first 10 days of practice).  Fees are waived if an athlete receives

     

     

                      free lunch or has paid the maximum required of a family.

     

     

     

    C.  MSHSL Athlete Rules violations can result in suspension

     

     

                1.  Possession and/or use of tobacco, alcohol, or other drugs (including web).

     

     

                2.  Attendance at parties where use of alcohol or drugs is occurring.

     

     

                3.  Poor academic performance.  Athletes must acquire credits according to

     

     

                     MSHSL standards as printed on the MSHSL eligibility form.

     

     

                4.  Theft or cases of vandalism or other violation of the law.

     

     

                5.  Sexual harassment or violence.

     

     

    6.  Other suspensions from practices or meets are possible.  Examples would be

     

     

                    poor conduct, missing practices, profanity, lack of effort or falling behind                            in studies.

     

     

     

    D.  Practice Rules/Standards

     

     

                1.  MSHSL requires 2 weeks of practice before competing in a meet.

     

     

                2.  The starting time means dressed and on the track or in the gym at that time.

     

     

    3.  Attendance of 90% must be maintained to letter (see lettering standards).                                                                                                              

     

     

                   If you have an unexcused absences to a practice (anytime you don’t let your    

     

     

                   Event Coach & Coach Nick know where you are) you will attended the

     

     

                   following meet in street clothes and support your teammates.  As long as you

     

     

                   communicate this shouldn’t be an issue.  College visits, doctors appointments    

     

     

                   and vacations should be pre-arranged with Coaches.

     

     

                4.  Captains will lead the warm-ups.  All upper classman are expected to

     

     

                      assume leadership roles in practice and at meets.

     

     

                5.  No cell phones at team meetings or at track meets. 

     

     

                6.  Skipping weight training is skipping practice.

     

     

                7.  Practice is not over until your Coach says it is over.

     

     

                8.  Never underestimate the value of communicating with your coach and the                       importance of your role and contribution to our school and our team.

     

     

     

    E.  Meet/school transportation rules

     

     

     

     

     

                1.  School policy is that all team members ride the bus to and from meets.

     

     

    2.  Team members are expected to stay throughout the meet and support the     

     

     

          team.

     

     

               3.  At meets our team will find an area where all of our athletes will set up a    

     

     

                    camp next to our water cooler.

     

     

    4.    On rare occasions an athlete may need other transportation.  This needs to

     

     

    be pre approved by parents, coaches and athletic director/assistant principal. 

     

     

                     

     

     

    F.  Meet/coaches expectations

     

     

     

                1.  Meets basically involve 3 things:  mental and physical preparation, rest and

     

     

                     recovery, and actively supporting team members throughout the meet.

     

     

                2.  Your body and mind will require additional nourishment & fluids - pack it! 

     

     

                3.  Try to wear warm ups close to school colors (opportunity to purchase).

     

     

    4.  The only athletes on or near the finish area should be athletes from the                 

     

     

         previous event, present event or next event.

     

     

                5.  Be familiar with meet order of events and the time schedule, it’s your

     

     

                     responsibility.  Your coaches will have all the information you need.

     

     

                6.  Your coaches will help you design your warm up.  Develop a warm up routine.

     

     

                7.  Be familiar with the rules!  For instance, the penalty for profanity or tossing a

     

     

                     baton is disqualification for you or your team. 

     

     

                8.  Track & Field etiquette - Wish your opponent well, win or lose offering                                congratulations is the spirit of the sport.

     

     

                9.  Bengal athletes are competing for a championship in 2014.  Walk, run, jump

     

     

                     and throw with Bengal Team Pride. 

     

     

     

    G.  Goals

     

     

     

                1.  Athletes are expected to set personal and team goals with their coaches.

     

     

                2.  Bengal Track and Field teams compete for the Conference Championship

     

     

                     and True Team Championship every year.  We have been close the last

     

     

                     couple of years at state and this time it’s ours.  MAKE A STATEMENT!

     

     

     

    H.  Athlete Character:  Track & Field Athletes exhibit the highest standards in the                         classroom, hallways, practices and meets.

     

     

     

    I.  Uniforms

     

     

                1.  Cost for not returning uniforms is $60 for jerseys and $45 for shorts.

     

     

                2.  Keep uniforms clean by washing in cold water and hang dry.

     

     

                3.  Altered numbers, damaged uniforms will cost you.

     

     

                4.  You can expect your uniform for your 1st meet!  Coach expects your uniform                    returned after your last meet.
