This link leads to my Google site, which I update weekly. Check back often for the latest news!Hello! I'm so excited to have your learner in my class! This year is like no other, and I'm sad that we can't begin the year with the usual excitement of a typical first day of school. Please know how important your child's learning is to me. But even more important is that they feel safe, welcome, and engaged in school. I will do my best to help learners in whatever ways work best for them.
Coon Rapids Middle School's mission is ALL CHILDREN WILL LEARN AND ACHIEVE AT HIGH LEVELS. My job is to help your child do just that--achieve his or her highest level possible, both in the classroom or through distance learning. This is my ninth year at CRMS and I firmly believe we have fantastic staff, faculty, and students. We also have great families, and I welcome input from you to help your child succeed. Please do not hesitate to contact me at any time to discuss your child's progress.

"D" Range = Not Yet Achieved a Basic Level of Understanding
"I" = Incomplete Evidence of Learning
"I/GRADE" = Incomplete Evidence and Current Grade
"F" = Failed to Show an Understanding of Most Learning TargetsI use standards-based grading, which means you will see many "not for grading" assignments in the gradebook. This means the scores/grades are entered so that students and families can track individual progress but do not count against the cumulative class grade.Participation
All students are expected to participate through listening, reading, writing, offering ideas and note taking.
Homework/Practice
All students are expected to read for 20 minutes per night. Most assignments are completed in class however, if the assignment is not completed it is homework.
Late Work
All work is expected to be turned in on time. If for some reason a student is not able to finish work by the assigned due date, they should make arrangements with me to get it completed. Even ungraded formatives are important, as they provide the practice students need to do well on assessments. Students who repeatedly forget their work may be asked to call home, or may result in a referral. When absent, the students should be sure to check in with me to see what needs to be made up.
When to Talk to the Teacher
Parents: Email is the best and fastest way for me to communicate with you. If this is not available, a phone call is always welcome. If you call, please leave me a voicemail message and I will get back to you as soon as possible. If you would like to talk with me, in person, please arrange ahead of time for a before of after school appointment.
Students: If you would like to talk with me you should see me before or after class, or before school. Please arrange a before-school time with me ahead of time to ensure I am available.
Grade Posting
Grades will be posted automatically as they are entered.Grade Weighting90% assessments (test, quizzes, projects, final assignments)10% District Common Summative Assessments (CSAs--these are trimester finals)Also included in the gradebook but NOT weighted are categories for formative assessments (practices, classwork, homework, etc.), and personal responsibility. Even though these "grades" do not count toward your final ELA grade, they are important communicators of student progress, participation, and citizenship. Independent reading is a daily expectation, but students will have CHOICE in what they read.
