    I'm Alicia Hedstrom, I graduated from Minnesota State University - Moorhead(MSUM) in 2011 with a Special Education Degree.  I started teaching at Milica Elementary school on January 2012 and started in the Anoka Hennipen School District in 2013.  I was lucky enough to find a school that feels like home in 2015 at Coon Rapids Middle School.  Since starting at CRMS I've taught Essential ELA for 3 years and Essential Guided Study for 2 years. This year I'm excited to teach the same classes because each year I'm able to enhance my curriculum with more engaging activites to promote student learning. 
     
    A little history... I graduated from Anoka High School in 2004 and initiatlly thought I was going to be a photographer.  I went to the Art Institute of Minneapolis for a 1.5 years and then realized the only time I truly got excited about my future profession was when I thought about teaching a highschool photography class.  I had the amazing Mr. Coffee for a photo teacher when I was at Anoka High and thought that would be the ultimate career.  It was then that I moved in with my Uncle, Aunt and four cousins to attend MSUM.  During my first year there I remembered my time as a paraprofessional at CRMS in the Special Education Department and how much I enjoyed working with this population of students.  So, I had finally decided that I would follow in my mother's foot steps and become a Special Education teacher.  I come from a family of educators both my parents and my two grandmothers were teachers, so you could say it's in our blood.
