COURSE DESCRIPTION
The major focus of the Aerospace Engineering (AERO) course is to expose students to the world of aeronautics, flight, and engineering. Students will be introduced to the PLTW activity-based, project-based, and problem-based learning through exploring the world of aerospace engineering. Students will receive a ½ credit in physics (contingent upon successfully completing the district #11 Physics standards). The students will employ engineering and scientific concepts in the solution of aerospace problems. The entire curriculum sequence will include experiences from the diverse fields of Aeronautics, Aerospace Engineering, and related areas of study. Lessons will engage students in engineering design problems related to aerospace information systems, astronautics, rocketry, propulsion, the physics of space science, space life sciences, the biology of space science, principles of aeronautics, structures and materials, and systems engineering.
.The AERO course is intended to serve as a specialization course within the PLTW sequence. The course is structured to enable all students to have a variety of experiences that will provide an overview of the field. Students work in teams, exploring hands-on projects and activities to learn the characteristics of aerospace engineering and work on major problems to be exposed to the various situations that aerospace engineers face in their careers.
In addition, students use Inventor, which is a state of the art 3D design software package from Autodesk, to help them design solutions to solve proposed problems. Students design intelligent vehicles and learn about documenting their project, solving problems, and communicating their solutions to their peers and members of the professional community.
TEXT AND MATERIALS
Required text: Private Pilot Manual (Jeppesen)
ACADEMIC DISHONESTY
Academic dishonesty of any form will not be tolerated in this class. Anyone cheating
on a test, homework or lab will automatically receive a grade of zero.
Further disciplinary action consistent with Anoka-Hennepin District 11 policy will be considered.
HOMEWORK POLICY
All of the assignments are due at the beginning of the hour of the assigned date, any homework turned in after the beginning of the hour will be considered late and the grading process will begin with a value 70%. On the second class period the assignment will be scored less 50%. After two class periods the home work is no longer scored and the assignment is given the value of 0%. Due to class alignment with college articulation all late assignments will receive a score of 0%.
Attendance and Tardies:
Due to the concentrated, accelerated nature of the program and emphasis on participatory learning, all students are expected to be in attendance at every class session scheduled. Students are responsible for the content and activities of the class, even if they are/were not in attendance. Make up work will be assigned by the instructor in the event of an absence. If more than 10% (6 days) of class time is missed, you will not qualify for University credit regardless of class grade or test results. Attendance at all class meetings is important. If you must be absent, contact an instructor prior to the class you will miss, and make arrangements to turn everything in prior to the next class meeting.Tardy Policy After the 3rd tardy 30 minute detention will be assigned before or after school. Failure to serve detention will result in assistant principal referral.
ABSENCES
If you miss a class you are responsible to copy the notes you have missed.
If you miss a test you will make up the test arranged with the instructor (prior to the school day or after the school day).
GRADING POLICY
Grades will be posted every Wednesday for review on A-H Connect
All scores are given in RAW scoring the value is as follows:
A=100-90%
B=89-80%
C=79-70%
D=69-60%
F=59-below
